I have searched the forum for this topic. And some info was there. BUT, nobody has said that if a 1 inch track will work without any mods. I seen some people plan on trying it. But didn't post if it worked or not.

I put a 1 3/16 track on my 86. I had to trim 3/16 inch in the area of the heat exchangers (10 mm left and right of the sprocket holes) so it would not rub. A photo is in an article in the archives.

That would mean that a 1 inch track should fit with no clearance issues.

I removed the center idler shaft because it was causing a rubbing sound against the inside of the tunnel. It now makes the rubbing sound only on really big bumps (getting big air).

Another thought is if you want to run studs with such a tall lug they would have to be even taller than the lugs to be effective. Any newer .750 to .825 track is a big improvement over the dismal stock track !
