We have 2 sets of Longacre Digital scales. these are pretty much the standard in racing for both cars and karts. I weight my SRV a month or so ago just because it was in the shop when we had the scales out. 490, this is with no oil system, no air box and anything that didn't need to be on it removed. I couldn't wt the VM that day because the engine was out, my guess is with the liquid cooling and the rad. and heat exchanges, I bet about 530. The VM also does not have an airbox or oil injection.
I think the people that weigh them at the factory are the same guys that calibrate the speedo's

Back when we raced, I was sponsored by a shop that set up alot of HiPo sleds, we had a place on the river here where everyone tested. It was very common for most sleds to read 7-8-10 mph more then the radar gun.
As for the scales, we set up 15-20 karts at each race, after the race they go across the official scales in tech, mine are always with in a 1/2 pound

According to the Yamaha manual the 83 Vmax was 452# and the 84's and up were 472# they said they strengthened the frame in 84 . But like I said that was according to the Yamaha manual. And none of us have ever heard of the manufacturers not telling the truth, now have we!!
