Running Question

Hey Guys,

I had the SRX out today to get a nice short ride in but about 10 miles into the ride I noticed she was running pretty hot (not reading on the temp gauge, but just felt warmer than normal under the hood) and my Tach, more or less stopped working. :x As it was reading very faintly even when throttled up. Also, after I noticed that I began to see the oil in the lines begin to ulsate more than usual, well atleast more than I can remember noticing before. So after I noticed both of these I made my way back down the trails and to the garage, After I pulled it in...I lifted the hood to check it out and noticed that it was still pulsating in the PTO side but with a small gap near the nipple on the cylinder, almost like it wasn't refilling the line as fast as it was being sucked out. The Mag side however, I noticed to be down about half way down the line with pretty much no oil near the nipple end of the line.

So....I hecked compression and everything still looked fine, but my question is...Does the Tach and Oil pump work together? Or are these separate issues that just happened to be at the same time? Or...does this have to do with the water pump housing and impeller shaft? Any help would be greatly appreaciated as I'm pretty stumped and scratching my head on this one, and would rather not tear the engine apart until I have an idea as to what I need to do.

And since its towards the end of the season, I'm looking to get it right instead of just taking it out and ruining it, just to get another ride in before the snow melts!!!

The Water pump shaft also, runs the tach and oil pump. http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/parts/home.aspx
-Is the antifreeze water circulating ?
-Is the Tach cable turning ?
-Is the gear drive oil up to level and free of antifreeze if it is Contaminated oil you may have a shaft bearing or seal gone bad
I take it the sled must have a direct injection setup in order to see the oil going to the carb flanges.

Well, here's the situation....

The Tach is turning, but all its reading is right around 2,000 rpm with only a lsight increase as the throttle opens up and the engine winds out. It seems to me that the anti-freeze is circulating, I say this becuase the cooler is getting warm/hot and the radiator as well. The level doens't seem to be going down so I don't think there are any leaks. I do have a direct injection system hooked up with clear lines so I can see the oil, wans't the goal but is working well in this instance, it seems to me that it works better when the engine is cold and first frunning but as it gets ridden and heats up through that it pumps less oil to the point where it looks not to be pumping at all. I've been running pre-mix in it just to check it out while its running but still havn't figured out what the problem is. I'm thinking I'm going to have to pull the engine and yank apart the housing to see what's up. Unless that is someone on here has a special magic test/fix for this problem. thanks everyone for the help!!!
