Confused with ID marking

I know what I have for V-Maxes, but the markings on the right side of the tunnel are differen than what is listed. I have and 80N, and some 8U9. Where are the ID tags I should be lookning for? Brad

8U9 (1983) The first year of the 540 and some parts carried this # like the Exhaust which did not change over the year's. On your (1985) the tunnel and crankcase should match and show the actual year designation (80N) unless the engine was replaced ?

Thanks for the info. I do know alot about the V-Max 540, but I didn't look at the tunnel #s until then. So, I had a question and the tunnel #s. Thanks again. Brad
