Oil Pump

Is there another way to determine the upgraded oil pump other than the red or black paint? I have three engines with the oil pumps that have no paint. Were the upgarded red dot pumps put on the 81SRX?

The oil pump output can be controlled by the number & thickness of the shims (per service manual) I believe this would have been how Yamaha upgraded the pumps ? I have both and could tear them down and look possibly tonight. Problem is someone could of done the same ?
